Sempre by J.M. Darhower5/31/2023 Just the perfect timing I’m still on the mood for Mafia/Assassin themed books (currently obsessing with it). ❤ This book has been on my TBR for ages and I finally get to pick this book up. Many thanks to my book girlfriend, Camille, for recommending this book to me. But how much will they have to sacrifice? Can they escape their pasts? And, most of all, what does it mean to be free? Murder and betrayal are a way of life, and nothing comes without a price-especially not freedom. In a world full of chaos, where money and power rule, Haven and Carmine yearn to break free, but a string of events that began before either of them were born threatens to destroy them instead. Entangled in a web of secrets and lies, they learn that while different on the surface, they have more in common than anyone would think. Now, a twist of fate causes their worlds to collide. Carmine, born into a wealthy Mafia family, lived a life of privilege and excess. Haven, a second-generation slave, was isolated in the middle of the desert, her days full of hard work and terrifying abuse. Haven Antonelli and Carmine DeMarco grew up under vastly different circumstances. THIS IS A STORY ABOUT SACRIFICE… DEATH… LOVE… FREEDOM. Genre:Young Adult / New Adult, Contemporary Romance, Suspense, Dark

Bram stoker books5/31/2023 The authoritative sequel to Bram Stoker’s original horror classic. Although Stoker did not invent the vampire, the novel's influence on the popularity of vampires has been singularly responsible for many theatrical and film interpretations throughout the 20th and 21st centuries.”- Fantasy Book Reviewīuy the book from Amazon (affiliate link)ĭracula the Un-Dead: The Sequel to the Original Classic “Bram Stoker created a masterpiece of the horror genre. A classic of Gothic horror, Dracula is a lasting story that continues to entice readers even today. A century of copycats has done nothing to decrease the public’s interest in Stoker’s charming but deadly monster as he stalks his prey-whether in a Transylvanian castle, a British insane asylum, or the homes of his swooning victims. Though Bram Stoker did not invent vampires, his novel helped usher them to iconic stature, launching a whole genre of storytelling that continues to flourish more than a hundred years on. Since its publication in 1897, Bram Stoker's novel Dracula has enthralled generations of readers with the alluring malevolence of its undead Count, the most famous vampire in literature.

The other wind5/31/2023 Jake drives off in his sports car, swinging by the ranch to find a just-arrived Jack Dale. Soon after, an emotional Hannaford lashes out at a nosy reporter, an encounter which cements that he is unlikely to return to the height of his powers in the industry. At the drive-in, Otterlake reveals he won't be providing funding for the film to be finished, effectively ending he and Jake's relationship. That's all framework for The Other Side of the Wind's ending. A recurring motif is the absence of The Other Side of the Wind leading man Jack Dale (Bob Random), who only shows up at the end of the party. Industry pals of his such as Billy Boyle (Norman Foster), an ex-child star, and Brooks Otterlake (Peter Bogdanovich), a former under-study of Hannaford's turned successful director who provides the opening narration, defend the aloof director while presenting context and back-story for his storied past through their conversations. Hannaford gets increasingly drunk while doing his best to avoid giving any of the swirling documentarians and reporters straight answers. A through-line among all the different faces and conversations comes in the form of a labored screening of Hannaford's footage that's interrupted twice by power outages before they move the party to a local drive-in theater.

Record of a spaceborn few summary5/31/2023 The narrative feels looser, even as the intersections in character and theme that Chambers achieves suggest careful structural planning. The characters’ lives intersect somewhat, but this is certainly not an ensemble cast (as opposed to THE LONG WAY ROUND). The destruction of the Oxomoco forces a reckoning for the entire fleet and especially for each of Chambers’ five POV characters–Isabel, Eyas, Sawyer, Kip, Tessa–who must reexamine their relationships to the fleet.Ĭhambers structures the narrative so that each individual’s story line spins out from the inciting incident of the Oxomoco’s destruction. When disaster strikes and one of the Exodan settler ships is destroyed, tens of thousands of people die in an instant. Now the fleet circles endlessly around a small star, preserving their unique way of life. Humanity’s last hope for survival, the fleet traveled for generations before making contact with the Aeluons, an alien species that introduced them to the Galactic Commons. The Exodan Fleet is literally a relic, welded from the ruins of Earth’s cities. Like the rest of Becky Chambers’ Wayfarers Series ( Amazon), this quiet story explores what it means to be a part of a family, a crew, a community, a species–this time through the fate of the Exodan fleet. RECORD OF A SPACEBORN FEW eschews explosions in favor of internal drama. Science fiction is not known for being gentle. |
